Labels, which include biotin, fluorophores, and other non-radioactive ligands, can be attached to RNA in a number of ways. Using T4 RNA ligase, a labeled nucleotide analog can be conjugated to the 3' end of an RNA fragment. Driven by a T7 polymerase, RNA can be also amplified to incorporate labeled nucleotides.
