Antibody Isotyping Kits

Antibody isotyping involves determining a monoclonal antibody class and subclass identity. Determining the class and subclass identity of an antibody is especially important for choosing the method by which it should be purified and used in immunoassays. For this purpose, antibody isotyping kits are available in two basic formats: ELISA kits or membrane (strip or cassette) kits. Isotyping is done in any immunological research and clinical diagnostics lab that requires antibody production. Isotyping is most easily done using commercial kits; except in large-scale antibody production operations, it is simply not practical to separately acquire the multiple antibodies required. When determining which kit to use, it is important to select isotype-specific antibodies that are derived from a different host species than the test samples. When choosing a kit, look for guaranteed optimal specificity of the antibodies to their respective immunoglobulin isotype.
