Ammonium Persulfate (APS)

Ammonium persulfate (APS) is a colorless, inorganic compound with the molecular formula (NH4)2S2O8. It is used as an oxidizing agent, along with tetramethylethylenediamine (TEMED) for the polymerization of acrylamide in casting polyacrylamide gels for electrophoresis. It also acts as a bleaching and cleaning agent. APS is used to etch copper on printed circuit boards and for the polymerization of alkenes.
