Mammalian Expression Systems

Mammalian expression systems and kits allow for the in vitro expression of genes of interest within mammalian cells. This involves the insertion of target genes into mammalian expression vectors, which can include plasmids with mammalian promoters or viral vectors and particles. This system is the most ideal for studying or producing mammalian proteins because it replicates the post-translational modifications and protein folding mechanisms of mammalian cells. It can thus be used in the development and production of therapeutic antibodies and proteins. However, mammalian expression systems generally offer lower efficiency and yield than bacterial or yeast expression systems.
