Methanol is a light, colorless, and flammable liquid with an alcoholic odor. Also known as methyl alcohol (MeOH), it is a polar solvent that also occurs naturally in trace amounts during metabolic processes. Methanol is fully miscible with water and is a commonly used laboratory reagent. It is used in protein electrophoresis, immunofluorescence, as well as in chromatographic separation such as FPLC, HPLC, and LC-MS.
