EastMabBio was founded in 2016 in Nantong, China, with an initial focus on antibody drug development. That early work in protein engineering and bioprocessing established the technical foundation the company would later draw on when it shifted its strategic direction. In 2019, EastMabBio redirected its efforts toward the development and manufacture of recombinant protein raw materials, responding to growing global demand for consistent, high-quality biological inputs across the life sciences.
Since making that transition, the company has expanded its operations to include a GMP-compliant manufacturing facility and has obtained ISO 13485 certification. Today, EastMabBio reports partnerships with more than 1000 organizations worldwide.
EastMabBio’s product portfolio centers on recombinant proteins used in life science research, biopharmaceutical development, and advanced cell culture applications. The catalog includes cytokines, growth factors, extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, and serum-free media supplements, as well as GMP-grade versions of several products. Most are produced using an IP-licensed CHO-K1 cell expression platform with a tag-free protein design.
Among EastMabBio’s featured products are recombinant transferrin and recombinant insulin, both widely used as components of serum-free cell culture media in stem cell research, cell therapy, and regenerative medicine. Another product of note is Fibronectin, formulated for direct addition to culture media without a coating step, supporting cell adhesion and growth while simplifying workflows.
EastMabBio’s products are used across a range of research and manufacturing contexts, including cell and gene therapy, stem cell research, organoid development, regenerative medicine, diagnostics, and vaccine development. The company has also positioned its portfolio to serve the cellular agriculture sector, where recombinant proteins play a role in the development of scalable, serum-free media formulations.
In addition to its extensive product catalog, EastMabBio offers custom protein development services, including expression, purification, and characterization tailored to specific project requirements. The company also provides bulk manufacturing and OEM solutions for customers with large-scale or commercial production needs.
EastMabBio’s manufacturing operations are conducted within a GMP-compliant facility supported by ISO 13485 certification. The company offers dual-grade supply, allowing customers to source the same proteins at both research-use-only (RUO) and GMP-grade specifications, intended to support a seamless transition from research through commercial manufacturing.
EastMabBio’s founding team brought experience from antibody drug development, which informed the company’s perspective that reliable upstream materials are a critical factor in enabling scientific progress. The company describes its guiding principle as “Key raw materials solve key problems.” For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, EastMabBio supplied recombinant protein raw materials to support diagnostic testing efforts.
Looking ahead, EastMabBio has outlined three areas of focus: continuously expanding its GMP-grade protein portfolio, growing its international distribution network, and continuing to invest in product development for cell therapy, organoid, and cultivated meat applications. Through these efforts, EastMabBio aims to collaborate with global partners to co-create a new era in life sciences.
