Western Blotters

Blotters are electrotransfer systems designed to quickly and efficiently transfer proteins (and nucleic acids) from gels onto blotting membranes. Wet blot transfer devices require a gel and membrane to be sandwiched and immersed in buffer, followed by continuous electrophoresis. These are tank blotters that feature low cost and have served as staple tools in western blotting for many years. In contrast, semi-dry blotters carry out electrophoretic transfer using significantly less transfer buffer and in a shorter amount of time. Some instruments feature transfer times of under 10 minutes. This upgrade in speed and convenience may benefit research teams that routinely perform western blots or nucleic acid blots.
