Functionally, this protein is reported to be a core subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I) which catalyzes electron transfer from NADH through the respiratory chain, using ubiquinone as an electron acceptor. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid length of 464 residues, a mass of 50.8 kDa, and is a member of the Complex I 51 kDa subunit protein family. It is known to be localized in the mitochondria. As many as 2 protein isoforms have been reported. The NDUFV1 gene has been associated with the disease, Mitochondrial complex I deficiency.
