Kynurenine ELISA kits are assays designed to detect kynurenine, a metabolite of L-tryptophan. It is a precursor to bioactive compounds such as kynurenic acid, quinolinic acid, picolinic acid, and 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid. The kynurenine pathway is responsible for a large part of tryptophan metabolism, such as the production of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). Kynurenine can cross the blood-brain barrier and is associated with diseases such as Schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s. Kynurenine-3-monooxygenase is an enzyme in the kynurenine pathway which converts kynurenine to 3-hydroxykynurenine (3-HK) and acts as the entry point to the quinolinic acid branch of the pathway.
