Notably, CLN2 is known to play a role in nervous system development and epithelial cell differentiation, among other functions. The TPP1 protein is 563 amino acid residues in length and 61.2 kilodaltons in mass. However, as many as 2 protein isoforms have been identified. It is localized to the lysosomes of the cell. In terms of tissue specificity, it is notably expressed in all tissues examined with highest levels in heart and placenta and relatively similar levels in other tissues. This protein is known to be N-glycosylated and cleaved. Other names for this target antigen include GIG1.
