Functionally, this protein is known to be involved in both the retinal photoreceptor ribbon synapse formation and physiological functions of visual perception. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid sequence of 1017 residues and a mass of 111.3 kDa. It is known to be localized in the extracellular matrix and is secreted. As many as 5 protein isoforms have been reported. The protein has been noted to be post-translationally O-glycosylated.
