Functionally, this protein is reported to be a small GTP-binding protein which cycles between an inactive GDP-bound and an active GTP-bound form, and the rate of cycling is regulated by guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEF) and GTPase-activating proteins (GAP). The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid length of 201 residues, a mass of 22.2 kDa, and is a member of the Arf protein family. It is known to be localized in the cell membrane, nucleus, and cytoplasm.
