The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid length of 968 residues, a mass of 106.8 kDa, and is a member of the Class-II aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase protein family. Its subcellular location is known to be in the cytoplasm. As many as 2 protein isoforms have been reported. The gene encoding this protein has been associated with the disease, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. This protein may also be known as CMT2N, DEE29, EIEE29, HDLS2, TTD8, alanine--tRNA ligase, cytoplasmic, alaRS, and AARS.
