Anti-MYL2 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein myosin light chain 2. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 166 amino acid residues and a mass of 18.8 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasm. It is reported to be highly expressed in type I muscle fibers. MYL2 is reported to be a contractile protein that plays a role in heart development and function. Post-translational modifications have been described, including methylation and phosphorylation. The MYL2 marker can be used to identify Cardiomyocytes.* Synonyms for this target antigen include MFM12, MLC-2, MLC-2s/v, MLC-2v, MLC2, and CMH10. MYL2 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, chimpanzee and chicken species.
