Anti-PST1 antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target PST1 is a known alias name of the protein ST8 alpha-N-acetyl-neuraminide alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase 4, encoded by the ST8SIA4 gene in humans. This 359-amino acid residue protein is known to catalyze the polycondensation of alpha-2,8-linked sialic acid required for the synthesis of polysialic acid (PSA), which is present on the embryonic neural cell adhesion molecule (N-CAM), necessary for plasticity of neural cells. It is localized to the Golgi of the cell and features glycosylated post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is reported to be highly expressed in fetal brain, lung and kidney and in adult heart, spleen and thymus. Other synonyms for PST1 include PST and SIAT8-D. ELISA and Western Blot are common applications for PST1 antibodies.
