Anti-SYT17 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein synaptotagmin 17. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 474 amino acid residues and a mass of 53.8 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the membrane. It is noted to be expressed abundantly in the brain (frontal and temporal lobes, hippocampus, hypothalamus, amygdala, substantia nigra, and pituitary), kidney, and prostate. A member of a the Synaptotagmin protein family, SYT17 is reported to play a role in in dendrite formation by melanocytes. Synonyms for this target antigen include B/K protein, synaptotagmin XVII, and sytXVII.
