Anti-Gb3S antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target Gb3S is a known alias name of the protein alpha 1,4-galactosyltransferase (P blood group), encoded by the A4GALT gene in humans. This 353-amino acid residue protein is known to catalyze the transfer of galactose from UDP-alpha-D-galactose to lactosylceramide/beta-D-galactosyl-(1->4)-beta-D-glucosyl-(1<->1)-ceramide(d18:1(4E)) to produce globotriaosylceramide/globoside Gb3Cer (d18:1(4E)). It is localized to the Golgi of the cell and features glycosylated post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is ubiquitously expressed across many tissue types. Other synonyms for Gb3S include A14GALT and A4GALT1.
