Anti-AIT antibodies are protein reagents that detect specific antigens. The AIT antigen is another term for the human protein solute carrier family 5 member 8, encoded by the SLC5A8 gene. The protein is known to function in the apoptotic pathway and the transport of ions, among other biological roles. Canonically, it has an amino acid length of 610 residues and a mass of 66.6 kilodaltons. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane and it is reported to be expressed in normal thyroid, localized at the apical pole of thyroid cells facing the colloid lumen, but expression profoundly decreased in thyroid carcinomas. The AIT protein is a member of the Sodium:solute symporter (SSF) (TC 2.A.21) protein family.
