Anti-hamlet antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target hamlet is a known alias name of the protein lactalbumin alpha, encoded by the LALBA gene in humans. This 142-amino acid residue protein is a regulatory subunit of lactose synthase, changes the substrate specificity of galactosyltransferase in the mammary gland making glucose a good acceptor substrate for this enzyme. The protein is secreted and features glycosylated post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is reported to have mammary gland specific expression.
