Anti-TMEM216 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein transmembrane protein 216. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 145 amino acid residues and a mass of 16.5 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the membrane and cytoplasm. Up to 3 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. TMEM216 is known to be a part of the tectonic-like complex which is required for tissue-specific ciliogenesis and may regulate ciliary membrane composition. The TMEM216 gene has been associated with the disease, Joubert syndrome. Synonyms for this target antigen include HSPC244. TMEM216 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, chimpanzee and chicken species.
