Anti-MP1 antibodies enable researchers to detect and measure the MP1 antigen in biological samples. This target is a reported synonym of the PITRM1 gene, which encodes pitrilysin metallopeptidase 1. This protein is known to function in proteolysis, among other biological roles. The human version of MP1 has a canonical amino acid length of 1037 residues and a protein mass of 117.4 kilodaltons, although 3 isoforms have been identified. It is reported to be localized in the mitochondria of cells and widely expressed in many tissue types. MP1 is a member of the Peptidase M16 protein family.
