Anti-E12 antibodies enable researchers to detect and measure the E12 antigen in biological samples. This target is a reported synonym of the ELSPBP1 gene, which encodes epididymal sperm binding protein 1. This protein is known to bind to spermatozoa upon ejaculation and may play a role in sperm capacitation. The human version of E12 has a canonical amino acid length of 223 residues and a protein mass of 26.1 kilodaltons. It is reported to be a secreted protein that is notably expressed in the epididymis.
