Anti-CYP51 antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target CYP51 is a known alias name of the protein cytochrome P450 family 51 subfamily A member 1, encoded by the CYP51A1 gene in humans. This 509-amino acid residue protein is reported to be a Sterol 14alpha-demethylase that plays a critical role in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway, being cholesterol the major sterol component in mammalian membranes as well as a precursor for bile acid and steroid hormone synthesis. It is localized to the ER of the cell. In terms of tissue expression, it is widely expressed across many tissue types. Other synonyms for CYP51 include CP51 and CYPL1.
