Anti-PRCD antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein photoreceptor disc component. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 54 amino acid residues and a mass of 6 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the ER, Golgi, and cell projections. A member of the PRCD protein family, PRCD is known to be involved in vision. Post-translational modifications have been described, including palmitoylation and phosphorylation. The PRCD gene has been associated with the disease, Retinitis pigmentosa. Synonyms for this target antigen include photoreceptor disk component PRCD and progressive rod-cone degeneration protein. PRCD gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, zebrafish and chimpanzee species.
