Anti-RHD antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein Rh blood group D antigen. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 417 amino acid residues and a mass of 45.2 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane. Up to 6 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably expressed in the bone marrow. A member of the Ammonium transporter (TC 2.A.49) protein family, RHD is believed to be part of an oligomeric complex which is likely to have a transport or channel function in the erythrocyte membrane. Post-translational modifications have been described, including palmitoylation. The RHD gene has been associated with the disease, Hemolytic disease of fetus and newborn. Synonyms for this target antigen include DIIIc, HDFNRH, RH, RH30, RHCED, RHDVA(TT), RHDel, and CD240D.
