Anti-CA12 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein carbonic anhydrase 12. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 354 amino acid residues and a mass of 39.5 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane. Up to 2 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is reported to be highly expressed in colon, kidney, prostate, intestine and activated lymphocytes. It is a member of the Alpha-carbonic anhydrase protein family. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation. The CA12 gene has been associated with the disease, Hyperchlorhidrosis. Synonyms for this target antigen include CAXII, HsT18816, T18816, carbonate dehydratase XII, carbonic anhydrase XII, and CA-XII. CA12 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species. Over 60 citations in the literature describe the use of CA12 antibodies in research. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
