Anti-ACSM5 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein acyl-CoA synthetase medium chain family member 5. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 579 amino acid residues and a mass of 64.8 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the mitochondria. Up to 2 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably expressed in the kidney and liver. A member of the ATP-dependent AMP-binding enzyme protein family, ACSM5 is known to catalyze the activation of fatty acids by CoA to produce an acyl-CoA, the first step in fatty acid metabolism. Synonyms for this target antigen include acyl-coenzyme A synthetase ACSM5, mitochondrial. ACSM5 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine and chimpanzee species.
