Anti-MKS transition zone complex subunit 1 antibodies are directed against the protein encoded by the gene MKS1 in humans. The gene may also be known as BBS13, JBTS28, MES, Meckel syndrome type 1 protein, and POC12 centriolar protein homolog. Structurally, the protein is reported to be 64.5 kilodaltons in mass. Based on gene name, yeast, plant, fly, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat orthologs may also be found.
