Anti-CEA cell adhesion molecule 16, tectorial membrane component antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the CEACAM16 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 425 amino acid residues and a mass of 45.9 kDa. It is known to be a secreted protein. A member of the CEA protein family, it is known to be required for proper hearing, plays a role in maintaining the integrity of the tectorial membrane. Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation. The gene encoding this protein is implicated in Deafness. Other names for this target antigen include carcinoembryonic antigen like-2 protein, carcinoembryonic antigen related cell adhesion molecule 16, and carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 16. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine and chimpanzee species.
