Anti-VPS41 subunit of HOPS complex antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the VPS41 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 854 amino acid residues and a mass of 98.6 kDa. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 3 different isoforms for this protein. It is reported to be expressed in cerebral cortex and cerebellum. A member of the VPS41 protein family, it is reported to play a role in vesicle-mediated protein trafficking to lysosomal compartments including the endocytic membrane transport and autophagic pathways. The gene encoding this protein is implicated in Spinocerebellar ataxia. Other names for this target antigen include HVSP41, SCAR29, hVps41p, vacuolar protein sorting-associated protein 41 homolog, S53, and HVPS41. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
