Anti-HEXD antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein hexosaminidase D. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 486 amino acid residues and a mass of 53.8 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Up to 2 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is reported to be expressed in synovial fibroblasts and synovial membranes. A member of the Glycosyl hydrolase 20 protein family, HEXD is known to have hexosaminidase activity. Synonyms for this target antigen include beta-N-acetylhexosaminidase, beta-hexosaminidase D, hexosaminidase (glycosyl hydrolase family 20, catalytic domain) containing, hexosaminidase D, cytosolic, and N-acetyl-beta-galactosaminidase. HEXD gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
