Anti-EMAP like 1 antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the EML1 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 815 amino acid residues and a mass of 89.9 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 2 different isoforms for this protein. It is notably expressed in most tissues with the exception of thymus and peripheral blood lymphocytes. A member of the WD repeat EMAP protein family, it is known to be involved with brain development and hematopoietic progenitor cell differentiation. The gene encoding this protein is implicated in Band heterotopia. Other names for this target antigen include ELP79, EMAP, EMAP-1, EMAPL, echinoderm microtubule-associated protein-like 1, and BH. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
