Anti-DEFA6 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein defensin alpha 6. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 100 amino acid residues and a mass of 11 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasmic vesicles and is secreted. It is reported to be expressed in Paneth cells of the small intestine. A member of the Alpha-defensin protein family, DEFA6 is reported to be a host-defense peptide that contributes to intestinal innate immunity and mediates homeostasis at mucosal surfaces by forming higher-order oligomers that capture bacteria and prevent microbial invasion of the epithelium. Synonyms for this target antigen include HD-6, defensin-6, defensin, alpha 6, Paneth cell-specific, and DEF6. DEFA6 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse and chimpanzee species. A number of DEFA6 antibodies have been mentioned in research publications and have associated citations.
