Ganglioside GM1 is a type of membrane glycosphingolipid carbohydrate which modulates cell signal transduction. The GM1 antigen is found abundantly in the brain and is associated with neurological processes. IgM antibodies against GM1 are reportedly elevated in patients with Guillain–Barré syndrome, dementia, and lupus.
