Anti-alpha Synuclein antibodies enable researchers to detect and measure the alpha Synuclein antigen in biological samples. This target is a reported synonym of the SNCA gene, which encodes synuclein alpha. This protein is known to function in the apoptotic pathway and the response to oxidative stress, among other biological roles. The human version of alpha Synuclein has a canonical amino acid length of 140 residues and a protein mass of 14.5 kilodaltons, although 3 isoforms have been identified. It is reported to be localized in the nucleus, cytoplasm, and is secreted of cells and notably expressed in the kidney, colon, cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and bone marrow. alpha Synuclein is a member of the Synuclein protein family.
