Anti-Periplakin antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the PPL gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 1756 amino acid residues and a mass of 204.7 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cell membrane and cytoplasm. It is reported to be expressed in stratified squamous epithelia and in some other epithelia. A member of the Plakin or cytolinker protein family, it is a known component of the cornified envelope of keratinocytes. Other names for this target antigen include 190 kDa paraneoplastic pemphigus antigen and 195 kDa cornified envelope precursor protein.
