Anti-HAL antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein histidine ammonia-lyase. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 657 amino acid residues and a mass of 72.7 kDa. Up to 3 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably widely expressed in many tissue types. It is a member of the PAL/histidase protein family. The HAL marker can be used to identify Periportal Hepatocytes and Mid Zone Hepatocytes.* Synonyms for this target antigen include HSTD, histidase, and HIS. HAL gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
