Anti-C-Reactive Protein antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the CRP gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 224 amino acid residues and a mass of 25 kDa. It is known to be a secreted protein. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 2 different isoforms for this protein. A member of the Pentraxin protein family, it is known to be involved with inflammatory response pathways and innate immune responses. Other names for this target antigen include C-reactive protein, pentraxin-related, pentraxin 1, and PTX1. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine and chimpanzee species.
