Anti-Mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein antibodies are directed against the protein encoded by the gene MAVS in humans. The gene may also be known as VISA, CARDIF, IPS-1, IPS1, CARD adapter inducing interferon beta, and CARD adaptor inducing IFN-beta. Structurally, the protein is reported to be 56.5 kilodaltons in mass. Based on gene name, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat orthologs may also be found.
