Anti-Peripherin 2 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the PRPH2 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 346 amino acid residues and a mass of 39.2 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the membrane. A member of the PRPH2/ROM1 protein family, it is known to be important for retina photoreceptor outer segment disk morphogenesis, may also play a role with ROM1 in the maintenance of outer segment disk structure (By similarity). Post-translational modifications have been described, including glycosylation. Other names for this target antigen include AVMD, CACD2, DS, MDBS1, PRPH, RDS, RP7, and AOFMD.
