Anti-CAPN3 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein calpain 3. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 821 amino acid residues and a mass of 94.3 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Up to 5 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably expressed in the skeletal muscle. A member of the Peptidase C2 protein family, CAPN3 is known to be involved with the apoptotic pathway and muscle organ development. The CAPN3 gene has been associated with the disease, Muscular dystrophy. Synonyms for this target antigen include CANPL3, LGMD2, LGMD2A, LGMDD4, LGMDR1, nCL-1, p94, and CANP3. CAPN3 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish and chicken species. A number of CAPN3 antibodies have been mentioned in research publications and have associated citations. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
