Native proteins are polypeptides structurally and functionally preserved in their natural state and are generally purified directly from the blood or tissue of a specified organism. Thus native proteins will feature characteristics that reflect the in vivo conditions of their host tissue and organism. These biological features may include protein modifications like glycosylation and phosphorylation, cleavage patterns, isoforms, and other protein associations. Native proteins and polypeptides may be preferred over recombinant proteins in work pertaining to in vivo environments. For example, for antibodies intended to interact with targets in vivo, using native protein antigens will more closely resemble the in vivo state. Visit the protein supplier page for more information, including details on purification and validation.
