
Deep well plates are multi-well microplates with a significantly large cross-section, ideal for applications in which larger volumes are essential. They are commonly made of polypropylene or polystyrene plastic and labeled with letters and numbers to identify samples. Deep well plates are ideal for sample storage as the volumes of the individual wells can range from 0.5 to 1.2 milliliters. Other applications for deep wells can include analytical measurements (such as by absorbance, fluorescence, or luminescence), protein extraction, nucleic acid purification, microbial cultivation, and screening. The shape of the wells can suit different applications, such as flat for analytical measurements, round bottoms for mixing, or conical bottom surfaces for optimal sample recovery as it allows accurate pipetting to the final drop. They can minimize cross-contamination as their wells have raised rims and provide optimal sealing. They also have adequate space on their side walls for barcode labels.
