Acrylamide

Acrylamide solution is a defining ingredient in polyacrylamide gels, used in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). PAGE is used for the separation of proteins as well as DNA fragments generated by restriction endonuclease digestion or dideoxy sequencing. Acrylamide, a water-soluble organic compound with the formula C3H5NO, is often combined with bisacrylamide to form polyacrylamide gels, where the acrylamide:bisacrylamide ratio determines the pore size of the gel.
