The assay forms an intense purple solution that can be measured at 562 nm. BCA assays are highly sensitive, reliable, and can be used to determine yields in crude extracts and purified protein samples. They can also be used to detect protein contamination. While BCA assays can tolerate a small amount of detergents, they are temperature-sensitive and may also be affected by reducing agents and copper chelators.
