Basement Membrane Extracts

Basement membrane extracts are formulations that mimic the extracellular matrix for cell culture purposes. Basement membranes in cells are thin but densely packed sheets of specialized extracellular matrix used to maintain cell integrity and structural support, while influencing cell proliferation and survival. These extracts are used in 3D cell culture, invasion assays, angiogenesis assays, metabolic studies, and in studying cell development, proliferation and attachment. In mammals, basement membranes are found under epithelial and endothelial tissues and in surrounding muscles.
