Labeled Nucleotides

Labeled nucleotides are available from several suppliers for use in molecular biology. These nucleoside triphosphates, conjugated to moieties such as fluorophores or biotin, can be incorporated into DNA and RNA to prepare hybridization probes. Such probes allow fluorescent or chemiluminescent detection of specific nucleic acid sequences in cells and tissue (in situ hybridization), or among electrophoresis-separated fragments (northern and southern blots). Labeled nucleotides can be incorporated into DNA or RNA fragments via methods such as nick translation, cDNA labeling and 3’-end labeling.
