Upright microscopes are microscopes in which the objective lenses are placed above the stage, while the source of light and condenser are located below, allowing for observation of the specimen from the top. This is in contrast to an inverted microscope, where the source of light and the condenser are located above the stage, with the objectives placed below, and where cells are observed through the bottom of the cell culture vessel. Phase contrast, brightfield, darkfield and fluorescence microscopy are possible with upright microscopes, and they allow for observation of live cells as well as fixed tissue samples. Upright microscopes are used for clinical and research applications in fields such as cell biology, immunology, pathology, and hematology. Refer to documentation provided by the manufacturer for more information.
