Protein Assay Kits

A variety of protein assay and quantification kits are available for the rapid and reliable measurement of total protein abundance or concentration. One of the most common is the bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay, which utilizes copper reduction from the proteins’ peptide bonds. A concentration-dependent colorimetric change from green to purple is measured using a spectrometer. Another common method, the Bradford assay utilizes the binding of the blue Coomassie dye in proportion with the amount of protein. Commercial assay kits carry out such methods while providing quality-tested and ready-to-use reagents for both speed and reproducibility of experiments. Pay attention to the buffer components of the sample, such as the presence of certain detergents, to ensure its chemical compatibility with the assay.
