Description

Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a dimeric glycoprotein that can consist of either two A subunits (PDGF-AA), two B subunits (PDGF-BB), or one of each (PDGF-AB). It acts as a powerful mitogen for cells of mesenchymal origin, such as fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells, and glial cells. PDGF-BB is known to be the ligand with the highest affinity for PDGFR-beta. Research indicates that PDGF-BB plays a role in preventing destructive repair and promoting reparative osteogenesis in cases of steroid-associated osteonecrosis of the femoral head in rabbits
